In The Lab: DIY Honey Facial Cleanser

Honey. The honey craze comes and goes…and always comes back again. I’m seeing a lot of skincare products hitting the market again with honey in them, and until I can get my hands on a few of them, I figured that I’d use what I have in the kitchen for now! This is just a quick recipe that should get you through until you can get your honey skincare products too!

Small batch (should last 1 week):

2 tablespoons honey (antibacterial, probiotic, removes dirt and impurities, gentle on skin)

1 tablespoon coconut oil (antimicrobial, has Vitamin E, antioxidant, anti-aging, hydrating)

1/2 teaspoon turmeric (antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-aging, improves skin elasticity, helps even out skin tone)

Mix thoroughly, You can put it in the refrigerator if you’d like (the coconut oil will make it solidify), but you don’t have to. If you are wearing makeup, remove this first, whether it’s with makeup wipes, liquid remover, or another facial cleanser. I use the Walnut Complexion Scrub from Ole Henriksen before using the honey cleanser, because as you all know, I am the exfoliation queen, thank you very much. 🙂

Take a small portion of the honey cleanser, rub it between your hands, and then apply to your face using gentle circular motions. It will smell like honey and turmeric. You will be okay. You will. 😉 Once you feel that your face has been cleansed sufficiently, rinse. When you pat your face dry (damp), make sure that you either use a washcloth that you don’t mind being slightly stained by the turmeric, or pat your face dry with a paper towel, preferably a soft one.

Your face should feel pretty soft and moisturized, and maybe even a bit glowy! Since I’ve been using this, I’ve had the problem of not being able to stop touching my face afterwards. It just feels so soft! But even though it feels nice and moisturized, make sure that you use an actual moisturizer of some sort when you’re done if you feel the need to.

As with anything, whether it’s store bought or DIY, results may vary. If you are allergic to any of these products, please do not try this, as your health is important! If you do try this out, please let me know what you think in the comment section below. Enjoy! 🙂

Cosmetics Company Store: Clinique

The Cosmetics Company Store. If you’ve never been to one, or you live close to one, or you see one when you’re on vacation, you might want to stop in and see what kinds of makeup/skincare/fragrance goodies they have inside…at a discount! You can find several different brands in these stores, including MAC, Estee Lauder, Lancome, Origins, Bobbi Brown, Smashbox, and more. The closest store to me is about two hours away, and I had the opportunity to drop by and peruse the goods about a month ago. What did I buy?

Not much. 😀

There were so many different products to choose from, but I decided that what I really needed were a few more skincare products. So I trucked it on over to the Clinique wall, and grabbed a couple of items that were in the travel set section.

Travel Set #1:

Mild Liquid Facial Soap, Clarifying Lotion 2, and the Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion. The price for this one was $12.00. The only product in this set that I’d used before in the past was the Moisturizing Lotion, which was the main reason that I picked up this particular travel set. Apparently this one is for very dry to dry combination skin, and my skin is oily as all get out, but it actually works very well with my skin. I’ve never tried the set for oily skin, so I don’t know how much of a difference that would have made, but so far, I’m not having any problems with this one. The only thing that I don’t like is the fact that you’ll run out of the Moisturizing Lotion before you are anywhere near finished with the soap or the clarifying lotion. Meh.

Travel Set #2:

This one caught my eye, as all of the outer packaging was in Russian. I’m assuming that there was a LOT of overstock going on with this particular product, or maybe it didn’t sell well in Russia and was shipped back Stateside? I don’t know what that was all about, but the set was only $12.00, so I picked it up and kept it moving! 🙂

This set consists of three items as well. The Turnaround Instant Facial Masque, Turnaround Body Smoothing Cream, and the Superdefense SPF 25 Age Defense Moisturizer. I haven’t tried the masque or the cream yet, but I just started using the moisturizer (because I ran out of the moisturizer from the set mentioned above!), and so far…I like it. I don’t love it, but I like it. And there’s far more product in this little jar than I’d initially thought!

The only thing that I don’t like is that it has that SPF scent, you know? It just bothers me. We’ll see how this goes.

I’m looking forward to visiting another Cosmetics Company Store in the (hopefully) near future! You know I could always use more skincare products…and makeup…

Or at least that’s what I keep telling myself. 😀
