Vintage Post: They’re Not Burberry, But They’ll Do!

(January 25, 2011)

Y’all, I was excited to get these, in case you couldn’t tell. lol

Style:ย Dollhouse Kalista Booties in Black. DSW. Again. ๐Ÿ˜‰ 4.5″ stacked heel, with a 1/2″ platform. They have faux fur on the inside, which helps during the winter, and it also ups the adorable factor. The buckles are adjustable, but the zipper in the middle is just for show.

Comfort/Suffer Factor:ย The only thing that I do not like about these shoes is that I can only wear them for about 5 hours of standing and walking time before I literally need to get off of my feet! However, they definitely get people’s attention, whether you’re walking or sitting down. People have stopped me to tell me that they love these shoes, and I thank them and direct them to their nearest DSW to pick up a pair!

Love, Hate, or Indifferent:ย *blinks* Do you really have to ask? When I opened the box, birds chirped, the clouds parted, and the angels began to sing. I LURVE these shoes. ๐Ÿ™‚

ETA:ย I just checked DSW’s website, and this shoe is no longer listed there. However, I know that there are other places that sell them, such as Endless.com, where they can be found in brown as well. ๐Ÿ™‚

Vintage Post: Lazy Saturday

(September 4, 2010)

Well.

Today has been…one of those days. The solution to having one of those days? Rest and relaxation. At least it was this time! I spent today doing absolutely nothing. Well, okay, I played around online, did some research, watched some tv, took a photo or two, and made fried apple pies.

*looks around*

What? *bats eyelashes* I like pie. I like it baked, and I like it fried. It’s a rarity around my house, so when it happens, I enjoy it. ๐Ÿ™‚ I use the pie filling recipe via Paula Deen, using whatever apples I happen to have around. Last time it was apples from the tree outside, today it was Granny Smith. However, I don’t like using refrigerated pie crusts or biscuits or any of that nonsense. I make the crust from scratch. It tastes better (I think it does, at least!), and it’s super easy to make!

Filling recipe:ย http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/fried-apple-pies-recipe/index.html

Pie crust recipe:

2 C all purpose flour
2/3 C cold butter (diced/sliced/cut up into small pieces)
1/4 teaspoon salt
4-5 tablespoons of cold water

You’ll also need a food processor or mixer.

Note:ย I only used 1/2 a cup of butter this time – I like butter, but I can’t handle super rich foods like I used to. I know, sadness. Still tasted good, though!

Mix the flour, salt, and butter together in the food processor until it is blended well. Add 4-5 tablespoons of water and mix again on pulse.

Roll out over a lightly floured surface to about 1/8 of an inch, and cut with a medium to large round cookie cutter, depending on how bit you want the pies to be.

Place a tablespoon of the filling in the middle, moisten the edges with water, fold one side over, and seal by pressing the edges together with a fork. In order to save time, I used the medium sized Pocket Gourmet Dough Press that’s been at the back of the kitchen cabinet for goodness knows how long. I know it’s been years. Many. Years. Came in a box of three (small, medium, and large!), and has never been used.

*side note – What is up with me and unused products? Something’s wrong with that…

In a large skillet, heat oil on medium-high. You can cook 2-4 pies at a time depending on the size of your skillet, just make sure that it is not overcrowded. Cook for 3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown. Transfer to paper towels, and enjoy!

Old Post: Quick Pic from Los Angeles (2011)

I am trying to consolidate all of the blogs that I’ve had over the last few years so that everything that I want to keep can be in one place, and so I can delete some of the older blogs. Here’s a super short post from June 2011 when one of my best friends and I (and her family and my mom!) flew out to L.A. for an event and for individual family vacays. IMATS LA was also happening the last day of the visit, but we just couldn’t time it right. Maybe next year, yeah? ๐Ÿ™‚

(June 26, 2011)

So a bunch of us flew out to L.A. last week to support our friend, Faith Evangeline, who is the creator of/designer for Evil Pawn Jewelry, at a red carpet event that was held for her to promote her line on the West Coast. Evil Pawn Jewelry’s Rock For A Cause event benefiting the VH1 Save the Music Foundation. One of my best friends is also a model for her, so I was on support mode! I love to support my people, especially when they’re doing awesome things. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Check out Faith’s line – you just might like what you see!

Evil Pawn Jewelry

I may throw a few Los Angeles stories your way, if I can post them while I remember them. No promises, though. Y’all know how I do. lol! In the meantime, here’s a quick pic of one of my BFFs (and EPJ model) Grace, Faith Evangeline, and myself. It was late. We were exhausted. I love my people. ๐Ÿ™‚

Soft Feet

Well, I decided to do a little bit of foot pampering today at home, as summer is trying to wrap itself up, and…um…yeah, I don’t really have an excuse. It needed to be done. *slowly walks away in shame* Found a little footbath recipe online that calls for 1/2 to 1 cup of vinegar added to the water, and your feet are supposed to soak for 20-45 minutes. The vinegar is supposed to help remove dead skin and calluses. Yucky, I know. So I went downstairs and grabbed the HoMedics foot spa that has been down there for years, yet has never been used. Don’t ask.ย *Speaking of, what ever happened to my facial steamer? Haven’t seen it in many years. Huh.*

Anyhoo, I added water and 1/2 cup of vinegar, and fired this puppy up. Aaaah, heat and bubbles. I let my feet soak for about 20 minutes while I caught up on my online reading for the afternoon. After the soak, I took my Mr. Pumice Contour Shape Bar and scrubbed my feet down.
The result? No, I’m not posting pics of my feet. lol But oh glorious day! Feet that were soft, supple, and fun to touch, oh my! Rinsed my feet, put on a little bit of Bag Balm (if you don’t know, you’d better ask somebody!), should have thrown on some socks, but you know, whatever, and went on about my day! Try it out if you get a chance. You just might like what you see…er, feel. ๐Ÿ™‚
